A New Way of Construction: Modular Buildings
Boldt’s Build of the new Lawrence University and Trout Museum of Art in Downtown Appleton
The Boldt Company hired me last Fall to take photos of a unique crane lift, as part of the new Lawrence University and Trout Museum of Art building in downtown Appleton. A total of 46, 72ft x 13ft, developed by Minneapolis-based RISE Modular, were lifted by a crane to construct the top two floors of the building. These modular units will become market-rate apartments over a first-floor museum, and potentially for Lawrence University student housing in the future.
Most of the shoot, I was on the second floor of the building shooting the lift process. I also was able to bring out my drone to capture a different perspective of the day.
This image was taken by drone and showcases the Fall colors of Lawrence University’s campus.
Once the units were lifted into place, Boldt’s crew worked on “stitching” each of the unfinished units together by connecting interior and exterior elements to tie the project together.
Since this shoot in October ‘24 it has been exciting to see the project continue to develop knowing the great impact the final project will have for the Fox Cities community.
Congratulations to The Boldt Company who in January 2025, announced the launch of Bildt, a modular and prefabrication manufacturer as a result of the growing need for its prefabrication and modular construction business since its first modular project in the 1980s. Bildt will manufacture modular buildings, slide-in rooms and bathroom pods for markets that include health care, industrial, educational and commercial.
